"The military, prison, and financial policies of the U.S. government are interrelated, creating a social system that is repressive and offensive to human dignity for people who experience it, especially the marginalized, the poor, the 'Third World'. The poor in America are filling the prisons and the 'Third World' are the fodder on the other end of the bombs in America's wars. In categorizing the abuse of power that is undertaken by institutions operating 'above the law' or through State privilege, the deprival of life by government policies through war and the deprival of liberty to individuals through imprisonment are particularly fundamental problems that relate to the basic human rights every person should enjoy equally. Capitalism is being used as a justification for these actions historically by American policies, leadership, and their rhetoric... When you discuss what the alternatives to the 'corruption' that favors the 1% or represents only a fraction of the 1% who are permitted an active or consequential role in politics, it seems that #ows is suggesting an alternative of direct, active, particpative democracy that is also interested in a reform of policy according to moral standards." + Understanding #ows - Noam Chomsky Interview
'The arrangement of the mounds, platforms, complexes, and monumental artifacts at La Venta created a unique civil and ceremonial center that, in the words of Rebecca Gonzalez-Lauck, constitutes "one of the earliest examples of large-scale ideological communications through the interaction of architecture and sculpture"' + La Venta - Olmec Civilization
'The most notable structures of Palenque are the Palace (A) and the Temple of Inscriptions (B) both begun during the reign of Hanab Pacal and added to by his sons, Chan Bahlum and Kan Xul. Also built during Pacal's lifetime was the temple now called the "Temple of the Count" after the artist/adventurer, Count de Waldek who camped out in the temple in 1831 while creating fanciful illustrations of the site. A grouping of temples southeast of the Palace are known as The Cross Group. (C, D, E) Other structures at Palenque include Temple XIII adjacent to the Temple of the Inscriptions. In 1994 a secret door was discovered that led to the interior of the pyramid and an underground temple with three rooms. In the middle room was a solid stone coffin with the remains of a woman who archaeologists have called the "Red Queen" because she was covered in cinnabar... Also on the same mound is Temple XII, the first structure visitors see as they enter the site. It is also known as the temple of the Skull and the Temple of the Dead Moon. During 1992-94 over 500 objects were excavated from this Temple. Temple XIV is alongside the Temple of the Sun.'

"Iconography: Chaac is usually depicted with a human body showing reptilian or amphibian scales, and with a non-human head evincing fangs and a long, pendulous nose. In the Classic style, a shell serves as his ear ornament. He often carries shield and lightning-axe, the axe being personified by a closely related deity, god K, called Bolon Dzacab in Yucatec. The Classic Chaac sometimes shows features of the Central Mexican (Teotihuacan) precursor of Tlaloc."

The Sailing Boat - Fine Dining & Nightlife Hong Kong & Cantonese Food - Submitted by: Jon Akash I have developed a restaurant concept called “The Sailing Boat” which will bring the taste of my home town- Hong Kong, Cantonese food to the downtown region of San Jose, California. “Sailing Boat” is the symbol of the traditional Hong Kong “junk” ships which are a symbol of the old traditions of the port city. Hong Kong is famous by importing and exporting products, and the “junk” ships are still found there today, though not often in the same ornamental styles as the traditional vessels. This restaurant project involves... |

Eco-Business Methodologies - Research in the tourism, travel, or events industries - Submitted by: Meredith Jones-W...
